Oh boy. Tonight the Minnesota Timberwolves play the San Antonio spurs, the second best team in the league, and it's going to be ugly. Unless Gregg Popovich decides that tonight is the night to rest his stars then the Wolves are in for the biggest assbeating they've had this entire season.
The Spurs are the best defense in the NBA by far. Their best player is Kahwi Leonard who would have a chance to win an MVP and DPOY if Steph Curry wasn't having the best season by a player ever(for now). Tim Duncan is also having a DPOY caliber season and Tony Parker is having a resurgent year after sucking the past two years. Lamarcus Aldridge is still trying to learn to fit in with the team but he's been fine so far. San Antonio can do everything, they have an excellent half court offense, they can post up, shoot the 3, run the pnr. They have the best 3 pt defense in the NBA. If Golden State wasn't currently 26-1 then San Antonio would be by far the best team in the NBA.
How can the young Timberwolves beat them? They can't. Just enjoy getting to watch a historically great San Antonio team tonight playing against the 2020 NBA champions.
Matchups to watch:
Wiggins vs. Leonard: Leonard is possibly the best perimeter defender in the game, Wiggins is still a raw offensive talent trying to make a breakthrough in his sophomore season. Kawhi is going to lock him in a dungeon and throw away the key, this could be tragic.
Garnett vs. Duncan: Two of the oldest MFs in the league going at it, these two have sort of kept father time at bay and are having low key excellent seasons. Garnett has proven he still has some gas left in the tank while Duncan has been the anchor to the Spurs’ historical defense. To be honest, I hope they try to post up each other for a few possessions at least to turn back the clock.
Karl vs. Aldridge: Karl has turned into a beast recently. Aldridge is not ready for what Karl has in store for him tonight. Karl has the key to success.
Lavine vs Mills: Mills looks like the fastest fat guy in the league, Lavine is pretty poor defensively so it’s going to be hilarious to watch him run around screens trying to defend Mills. Lavine has been ok offensively recently, carrying the bench scoring wise for the most part. The Spurs’ defense could possibly incite him into a few comical errors.
