Timberwolves (3-2) at Hawks (7-1)
Tonight our Minnesota Timberwolves continue their eastern conference trek when they face off against the Atlanta Hawks. The hawks have put together a seven game win streak since losing their opening game to the Pistons (shout outs to Reggie, we see you). The Hawks’ schedule has been less than stellar but they’re leading the eastern conference and are coming off a 15 point win against the wizards. Our wolves are riding high coming off an overtime win of their own against the Bulls and will look to continue their winning ways. The hawks like to move it around on offense to find the best shot available, akin to the Spurs; however they are susceptible on the glass where they rank 26th in the league in total rebounds and 25th in offensive rebounds given up. Whereas the wolves are good for 8th in total rebounds while picking up 9 offensive boards per game.
It’s no surprise in their only loss that the hawks were dominated on the boards by the pistons, giving up 23 offensive rebounds. So it goes without saying in order to win this one the wolves are going to have to control the glass on both ends. Additionally a lot of responsibility is going to rest on Ricky as he’s going to be matched up against Jeff Teague who is playing some all star level basketball at the moment and he’s basically the engine that makes the offense work, he’s especially deadly in the open court where his speed can match up with the best of them in the league.
Match-ups to watch:
- Teague vs. Ricky: it’s going to be interesting to see how Ricky fares against Teague as he is a slippery customer but at the same time Ricky is an excellent defender so this should be a very competitive match up.
- Horford vs. KARL: Not much to see here, we all know KARL is going to give Horford the work all night long like Lionel Richie.
- Schroder vs. Lavine: Zach is horrible while Schroder’s is pretty damn good, like Teague he’s extremely quick in the open court and will probably give Lavine fits, this is a matchup to watch based on pure comedy value, will Zach not be trash? Stay tuned.
- Bazemore vs. Maple Jordan: Bazemore is coming of a 25 point effort against the wizards and he plays some nice defense, I have a feeling he’s going to torch Wiggins but at the same time the Maple Goat will get his.
Go Tayshaun Prince clutch baskets!
