In a season where the Timberwolves aren’t quite sure what their team is (should they tank or not?) nights like tonight are great indicators of what your team is capable of. The Indiana pacers are a fringe playoff team in the east. They aren’t a good team but they’re okay. Tonight the Timberwolves looked like the young/inconsistent/talented team we all know they are and in the end they couldn’t pull out the win. And that’s just fine honestly, our team is extremely young and they play like it. And those that aren’t young are extremely old (Miller, Garnett, Prince). The only one that’s really in his prime is Ricky, our best player, and he misses a ton of games.
The game started out well enough and was really competitive for most of the first half. In the first quarter the Timberwolves played good. Good ball movement, defense and 18 combined points from Wiggins, Lavine, and Towns had this team up 27-24 at the end of the quarter.
In the second and third quarters the Timberwolves pretty much pooped the bed. The Pacers took control of the game scoring 37 in the second quarter due to a porous Timberwolves defense. Paul George and Monta Ellis did whatever they wanted and for those two quarters they looked more like the spurs than the Pacers. At one point in the third the Pacers were up by 27 but the Wolves cut it down to 17 by the end of the quarter.
Then the fourth quarter happened. The Wolves came out and went on a run that cut the 17 point lead down to four with four and a half minutes left after coach went small putting Bjelica at the 5. At that point the atmosphere really changed and you could sense the tension in the air. A large reason the Twolves even made that run was Andre Miller. He had a really calming presence on the offense and was solid defensively and with two minutes left he found Nemanja Bjelica wide open on the wing for an above the break three to cut the the score to 98-101. And after a defensive stop by Lavine, Wiggins made a Layup to cut the lead down to one. Young, talented teams can do stuff like this, but like most young talented teams we weren’t able to close it out. In the end we lost 103-107 in another game that maybe we win if Rubio plays. All in all good game for the young pups despite the loss.
Andre miller was great tonight with a 10-4-5 line on an efficient 4/5 shooting
It was depressing to see KG look old and incapable. We’re probably gonna see him look like this a lot more this year and I hate it.
Wiggins should be a better rebounder as athletic as he is.
Zach Lavine was great tonight. Dialed in on defense, and his ability to stretch the floor was huge tonight.
I think we should run our offense through Karl a lot more, with his passing ability and his ability score in the post its something we can go to when we’re struggling to score.
Should we tank or not? I’m partial to the idea because I think we’re only one really good player away from being an amazing team but I understand that other people hate the idea of tanking. But people, come on just imagine Ben Simmons or Skal Labissiere on this team. Let’s just tank guys.
