So, i'm not supposed to write about Steph Curry tonight. I was explicitly told by multiple people to not even mention him. Well damn guys I don't know what i'm supposed to do then because the wolves just got Stephed. Curry had 45 points on only 25 shots tonight, hitting eight of his 13 threes and so we lost. A large part of this was that Ricky Rubio was hurt tonight and so Steph got to play against Zach Lavine, who did a terrible job on Steph, and Andre Miller. Lavine couldn't stay in front of Curry on-ball and off-ball he lost Steph several times off-ball which yielded wide open Steph Curry threes.
There were definitely really good things that happened in this game though. Wiggins had a real solid night doing great work on Klay Thompson while scoring 19 efficient points on offense. Karl-Anthony Towns looked lost at times on defense, probably because of the warriors crazy offense, but he had another double double which makes six on the season. The bench was awesome tonight and was a huge reason the warriors weren't up by 20 at the half and they were a big reason the wolves clawed back to within five in the fourth quarter. Bjelica, Martin, Miller, Dieng, and Muhammad all played huge roles in keeping this game competitive.
In the end maybe the biggest thing was that we were without Rubio and his defense was sorely missed. Maybe things would've ended differently but probably not, the warriors are an amazing team and I think its pretty huge that the Timberwolves played as well as they did considering they were missing their best player. I really think the wolves are only one real good piece away from being a great team and that is absolutely exciting!
- Shabazz needs to play more, period.
- We only shot nine threes tonight, making three of them. We need to shoot a lot more and cut down on the long twos. Which leads me to my next thought.....
- Hire Mike D'antoni. He's a perfect fit for this young team that needs to run more and shoot more threes. There's no good reason for a team with Kevin Martin and Nemanja Bjelica to shoot only nine attemps in a game ever! Those two should be at 10 attempts themselves per game easy. Wiggins should shoot them a lot more too and so should towns. Not having a decent 3 point shot will hold Wiggins back, at this point in his development there's no reason he shouldn't shoot them a lot more than he is right now.
- Zach Lavine trash watch: Welp, Zach was trash tonight. Terrible defense and poor shot selection were his issues tonight. It wasn't all bad though, he was able to get to the line tonight and he cut down on his turnovers. I think he can be a really good player, he's an inherently selfish player like Dion Waiters, he actually is a very capable passer and he has nice mechanics on his jumpshot(which he relies on way too much). I like the idea of him as a point guard who should be able to defend with length but I don't know if he'll ever get there. He's a frustrating player.
