Before the game tonight we found out that the Timberwolves would be going into the game without 3 of its best players. KG was understandably out due to old age(get rest big fella!), Rubio was out with "knee soreness", and Andrew Wiggins was also out with a knee injury. Was this just strategy by the front office to get some rest or did they have something else in mind? KG sitting makes total sense because he's old, Rubio has been injury prone throughout his career but Andrew Wiggins is just 20 years old and has been durable. Anyway, we were without our two best perimeter defenders and our best defensive big in this game and so we lost.
The Timberwolves started out hot tonight just as they did last night against the hawks, getting out to a 21-11 lead punctuated by a Payne 3. And we largely had things under control after that until our starters subbed out, our bench came in, and the Jeremy's came in and destroyed the bench. Lamb had 14 at the half and Lin had 13 and thanks largely to the efforts of Kevin Martin, Adreian Payne, and Karl-Anthony Towns the Timberwolves only trailed by 4 at the half.
In the third we scratched and clawed and it was very back and forth between the Hornets and the Wolves, but there was always that feeling that we were never really gonna win the game. That feeling was due to the fact that we knew that at some point we had to rest our starters and put a bench that's used to having Kevin martin and Zach Lavine on the court. At the beginning of an ugly 4th quarter for both teams the hornets pulled out to a 10 point lead and the game was basically theirs from there due to sloppy play and untimely turnovers. The Wolves were able to get within 6 points after a KAT jumpshot off a picknpop with Lavine, which was immediately answered by a crazy step back midrange shot by Lin over Karl.
Losses suck but there are so many great things our young dudes are doing and its evident that we'll be real good sooner than later.
Jeremy Lin's hair is absolutely out of control and it never moves. So much gel in that dudes hair.
Is Zach Lavine trash or not? he was pretty solid tonight offensively but he also had 8 turnovers and his effort on defense at times was questionable. I feel like you could make a decent argument either way based on this game. Dude could be so amazing but...just does too many things wrong. I get that he's young but still.
Karl-Anthony Towns has 5 double doubles in 7 games. The only other players to do that in the last 30 years are Shaq, Mutombo, and David Robinson. Sky is the limit for this kid, we're incredibly lucky that we got the 1st overall pick in this past draft.
Karl acquitted himself pretty well defensively against Al Jefferson. He did bite on a few pumpfakes but overall he had very few rookie moments against one of the best post scorers in the league.
